My five year old German Shepard, Alexis, has only taken Heartgard for heartworm prevention since she was six months old. She has never had any problems taking it nor has she had any adverse side effects from it.
To this day, she is a very healthy and happy dog! Of course, Heartgard Plus is a bit more expensive than other heartworm medications currently available, but when it comes to my pet, it is definitely worth the extra cost because I love Alexis and want her to have the very best in care.
She loves the taste of the chewable tablet and I have never had any issues with getting her to chew it up instantly. The vet was quite pleased with her check-up recently. He said she is in amazing shape for her age and I do feel that is due, in part, to Heartgard.
