If you have any doubts as to whether or not Heartgard Plus actually works, let me share my experience with you. I had to leave my German Shepard, Lucy, with my sister for a while.
It slipped their minds to give Lucy her heartworm prevention medicine for about 2 weeks. If you don’t already know, just that little bit of time is long enough for your dog to contract heartworms. Six months later Lucy was tested and was found to have heartworms.
My vet told me that there were just 2 ways of dealing with heartworms. I could choose either heartworm treatment or prevention. If a dog has had heartworms for a year or more, treatment may be a better option.
However, Lucy had only had them a short while so I chose to start giving her Heartgard Plus. After a year of doing this, Lucy no longer has heartworms. This medication prevented the return of them.
