Sometimes you don’t choose your pet; they choose you. That is what happened with our beagle, Sammi. She was left on the side of the road and we did not have the heart to just pass her by.
We immediately took her to the vet to have her checked out only to find that she was HW+. The vet told us our options were to give her Heartgard or treat the heartworms. We decided to try the Heartgard.
Our vet has told us that since Sammi has lived over four years and shows no effects from the heartworm that the year round doses of Heartgard have allowed her to outlive the heartworm.
This has to be an individual choice, obviously, for each pet owner, but for us, Heartgard Plus was definitely the more effective and affordable answer.
